Despite the not-so-rave reviews I've gotten about this drama, I feel that this is a lovely drama to watch. This futuristic drama opens in 2002 where an earthquake brought the school (where the whole drama is set) to the future, somewhere near the end times where the protagonists have to struggle to survive under dessert conditions, with little or no living necessities e.g food and water, and plenty of suscipion, selfishness and trauma. Overall, this is a rather philosophical drama about the human condition - the ugliness of mankind... This in itself is a strength of the drama. However, it is weakened by the slow pace of the drama, to the extent that I watched from episode 5 onwards on fast forward mode.Honestly, I must admit that there is a possibility that I might completely abandon watching this drama if not for the very sweet and sorrowful romantic element in the relationship between Kubo and Tokiwa's characters and these two characters themselves. The two main actors brought out their roles very well and through their acting, I could feel what they were going through, how they as adults have to supress their fears and insecurities in front of their students to become their pillar of support, how they supported each other through the very difficult times etc. etc... these scenes would not make you cry but they are sufficient to make your heart go out to them and to make one think and reflect about our own life. Because I have missed out a lot of details watching this drama fast forward, I believe that I will go back and watch it again to get it's complete meaning. If you are somebody who can sit through a slow paced drama, this is a good show to watch. Otherwise, please arm yourselves with plenty of snacks before you begin. I would recommend this show to both fans of Kubo and Tokiwa cos both of them were simply great in there. Personally I felt that Tokiwa had a slight breakthrough cos this character is rather different from all the other cutesy characters that she played. This time round, she was more of a lead than a female lead supporting the male lead. And if you are a philosophical (and patient) person, then this drama is indeed a must watch for you. |

Been hearing a lot about how this drama is really slow & draggy, but personally i didn't find it so. Certain parts could have been scrapped yes, but IMHO i didn't find that the drama was really slow, maybe a tad repetitive at certain parts, yes. The meaning behind the drama & the themes of human nature & mankind already highlighted by Cindy is what really got me in this drama. Kubozuka & Tokiwa worked really well together & i find that they have very good chemistry. Good work from the both of them! All in all, i'll give this drama a thumbs up. |
