[3]Episode 1
Re:Sora Kara Furu Ichi Oku no Hoshi
I have nothing to complain about the acting of Kimura Takuya, Fukatsu Eri, Akashiya Sanma and even the newcomer Igawa Haruka. Takuya acts well as the mysterious handsome cook of a French restaurant REVE, and Fukatsu Eri, as usual, is charming and talented. Even Igawa Haruka, to my surprise, is acting quite naturally. I have a bit problem with Akashiya Sanma as a detective as he sticks to my mind as the funny host of so many variety shows but that is my own problem and I think he is doing well.
What made me frowned and just gave this first episode a 2 and a half star is the script! I don't think it is just me but Kitagawa Eriko is doing a bad imitation of Titanic and Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet in this first episode!
Having watched 2 versions of the movie, the older one by Franco Zeffirelli and the newer version with Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Dane, I quickly recognized the resemblance. When I first saw how Ryo (Takuya) watched Miwa (Igawa) walked among the dancers at the dance party from behind some railings, my mind leapt to a similar scene from the movie. I thought to myself: "eh??", but I brushed it away. When later Takuya grabbed Igawa's hand from a narrowly opened door and they spoke in that position, I almost shouted: "oh noooooooooo!!". This is definitely a borrowed scene from Romeo and Juliet. To make sure, later I took my Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet video and searched again that scene and yes it is so similar when Romeo grabbed Juliet's hand from behind a curtain after watching her at the dance party. Other things resembling some scenes from Titanic (will be too long to explain, but you will see them if you watch the show), and being someone that values originality, I can't help but wish that Kitagawa could have been more original.....^_^
Another thing that bothers me is the characterization of Igawa Haruka. I just can't buy most of what she was doing in this first episode. For a dorama that is not a comedy and is supposed to be realistic to a certain extent, Kitagawa fails to make me "suspend my disbelief" with Miwa's character. For example, Miwa said that she didn't like that elite guy approaching her because she said he just wanted money, so how come she fell in love with Ryo even after she knew he was deceiving her for money? While Shakespeare and Zeffirelli could beautifully and convincingly build up scenes to scenes that eventually led to the "let lips do what hands do" (that is Romeo's words to Juliet) and made that classic kiss scene, Kitagawa could not build up convincing scenes as to why suddenly Miwa wanted to be kissed by Ryo just after a few minutes of meeting and she didn't even know who he was except that he was a cook. There are some other things that just didn't make sense to me and I think they are very unnatural or improbable. I know it is unfair to compare Kitagawa with Shakespeare ^_^ but I think she had better not try to imitate anything and stick to her own ideas...
As to the detective part, I am not sure yet what to say as it is just the beginning. Anybody in the dorama could be the murderer of that girl, including Takuya and Fukatsu Eri.
Oh well, I just hope the second and further episodes will be much better than this ~_~, otherwise it will be quite a waste for Takuya and Eri ^_^ rating 25.7% of first episode.
