This one episode special drama starring Youske Kubozuka aired late December 2001.

Kubozuka plays an "average" guy, hot tempered and a bit rough around the edges, who is forced by desperate financial circumstances to take a job he may not be naturally suited for, in order to support his siblings after the death of their parents.
When an experienced host club owner, who knows potential (AKA "rough trade") when he sees it, spies Kubo stomping down the street, he hires him on the spot to fill the role of the moody dangerous type.
Although Kubo tries to settle into the job, and becomes friends with some of the other hosts, his continuing need for more money eventually allows him to be headhunted by another host club. Unfortunately, this one is controlled by gangsters and Kubo may be in over his head...

The supporting cast at the Number One club includes Youske Santa Maria, slinking around his apartment in a silk bathrobe while his cellphone rings to the tune of the love theme from "A Man And A Woman", Kenji Sakaguchi, sporting a deep tan and auburn shag, mixed up in some rough business on the side, and Ryuichi Kawamura as the number one host, whose status, glamour, and designer house they all aspire to.
Also notable is an ultra-sleazy cameo by Takashi Sorimachi, who makes an unforgettable entrance accompanied by his army of tanned, hair-farming host boys.

I highly recommend this entertaining look at the world of a host club recruit. It has action, comedy, dancing, guys fighting in their underwear, and a great soundtrack of 70s disco/soul that plays almost constantly throughout the drama. If you like all these elements, I guarantee that you will totally enjoy watching Number One.
